Stacey Carroll and Richard Griggs Secure $2 Million Verdict in Medical Malpractice Case
Stacey Carroll and co-counsel Richard Griggs obtained a $2 million verdict from a jury in DeKalb County, Georgia for the family of a man whose pacemaker failed. Sixty-three year old Walter Knox died from cardiac arrest when his pacemaker, which also acted as a defibrillator, failed to shock his heart out of a dangerously irregular hearth rhythm. Stacey Carroll of Carroll Law Firm LLC and Richard Griggs of Conley Griggs Partin LLP argued that the defendant, a cardiac electrophysiologist, failed to properly monitor the patient’s pacemaker, which ultimately allowed a critical wire lead to become detached from the wall of the patient’s heart. After a four-day trial, the jury returned a verdict in the plaintiffs’ favor following less than four hours of deliberation. The case is captioned as Knox v. Metropolitan Atlanta Cardiology Consultants, et al., Case No. 13A49145-6, State Court of DeKalb County, Georgia.
